Odile with you on the HD - Namibia’s number one hit music station, and I want to know if you remember when everyone started yelling Im moving to Australia as a response to something that they can’t or won’t accept. Because after Trevor Noah started that trend, next thing you know everyone is talking about Patricia and her demand for two-ply toilet paper or how I’m moving to Australia ……
And most of us never really knew why Australia, we just went with the trend.
Well, maybe you’d want to change Australia to Iceland if you feeling fancy… esp for woman. Because it turns out that the country implemented a new law on Monday that will make it illegal for male employees to be paid more than women doing the exact same job.
As of Jan. 1st, the legislation said that any company or government agency with 25 or more staff members will “have to obtain government certification of their equal-pay policies, and companies failing to comply with this law will face fines.
This is exactly the right direction and step each country should be heading towards.
Currently, Iceland’s Parliament consists of nearly 50 percent female members. The World Economic Forum (WEF) ranked the nation as the world’s most gender-equal country for the last nine years, acting as “a leader on female political empowerment and a strong performer on wage equality.”
The Icelandic government has said it is committed to closing the gender pay gap by 2022. That’s is music to my ears….
So ... who’s ready to grab a balaclava and some sweaters and move to Iceland wit me?
We can take Patricia with and her demand for two-ply toilet paper…
