PD Stoman

I am a complete and utter sports-nut! Always have been. It was probably due to the fact that I spent a great deal of time around my granddad whilst growing up. He played professional football for many years and loved any and all sports known to man. He also encouraged me to watch and try any and everything that sparked my interest.

I started boxing when I was about 5, having cousins and farm-workers’ kids as sparring partners until enrolled for my first “official” martial arts class when I was 9 years old after my family moved to Windhoek.

After doing Karate for about 3 years I started doing Kickboxing, but during this time I also acquired some very useful Muay Thai, Judo, Aikido and traditional weapons skills.

As I got older though, reality set in that I was probably not going to be able to become a Ninja when I grow up… and so I started playing Football (please note that soccer is something Americans play without much success), Rugby, Cricket and Tennis, while also dabbling in some track and field athletics events. Toward the end of high school I added skateboarding, surfing and wakeboarding into the mix… and when I wasn’t training or competing, I was watching!

Nowadays I make a living as the head of research at a local market and socio-economic company. I have a keen and active interest in nature conservation, play in a few bands and I still participate in sports whenever I can.

In recent years I have gone back to my roots and revived my love for shooting and combat sports. And aside from Muay Thai (Kickboxing) and Mixed Martial Arts (Cage Fighting) training to stay fit and healthy, I am an avid CrossFit freak and spend every chance I get pushing my personal bests on WODs. I’m also working towards becoming a certified Exercise Specialist.

If all this sounds Greek to you, well, rest assured that some of it actually is!
