Last minute Submission to Halt Cape Town’s New Liquor Laws

The City of Cape Town has submitted a last-minute motion to amend the section of a new liquor law that would ban alcohol sales on Sundays.

The Cape Times reports that the Liquor Trading Days and Hours By-law, which will come into effect on Monday, has angered some consumers and those in the industry. According to the by-law off-licensed premises may sell liquor for consumption from Monday to Saturday only. The economic mayoral committee been quoted as saying that the by-law was designed to address alcohol abuse in communities, but there are employees and industries affected that have to be taken into consideration.
